Question | I like to provide my models for free
We are really pleased to find people who love building models and are happy to share them for free. However for those people who are not prepared to do so, Cadooku provides an incentive to make those models available to the wider SW community.
Question | Don’t all models belong to your employer?
Uploading models that belong to your employer is against our conditions of service.
However, we have found that employers themselves are happy to upload some of their content to create a passive income and that also quite a lot of SW users model items in their free time to improve their skills. If the models are created in your free time then, in most cases, the IP belongs to the individuals and these models can be uploaded.
We also have a lot of student users who’s models belong entirely to themselves, again in most cases.
If you have any concerns about the IP of your models please feel free to email Francesca@cadooku.com
Model Request Service – Preliminary details
Model Request Service – Preliminary details
Cadooku gets a fair amount of model requests from our global user base. These requests are distributed as fairly as possible to CAD modellers signed up to our database. If you would like to produce SolidWorks models in return for money, then please email us.
The process:
• Email us to indicate your interest and we will send you details of requested models.
• A gentleman’s agreement is entered into between Modeller (you) and Buyer.
• On completion, a preview of your model is sent to the buyer for review (by e-drawings)
• Once approved the model can be uploaded to Cadooku and sold directly to the buyer.
All models, produced via the model request service, will be available to other buyers on the Cadooku site, increasing the chances of additional sales and profit.
Cadooku Press Release 2
When Phil Staunton, Head of Design at Innovate Product Design, felt frustrated that he could not find an appropriate library to download SolidWorks models in order to populate render scenes and showcase work, he decided to embark on a new business venture with his business partner, Alastair Swanwick. Together they have founded a new SolidWorks model exchange website called Cadooku, the aim of which is to offer the chance for users to quickly and simply buy or sell models. It also provides a potential revenue stream for small companies, freelancers or students struggling to cope with SolidWorks license fees.
“Since its UK launch in November 2009, Cadooku has received great feedback from designers and industry experts who use SolidWorks. It is quickly becoming the place to go for high quality SolidWorks models across a wide range of categories. We look forward to the next phase of growth as we prepare to launch it internationally,” says Phil Staunton.
